Lesson 258: Learn that AI is not a human—it only follows instructions

💡 TECHNOLOGY & FUTURE SKILLS (40 Lessons)🟡 C. How Machines Think

Objective

I can say that AI is not a human. It does not have feelings or wishes and only follows instructions that people give it.

Materials

Mini-lesson — AI is not a human

AI (artificial intelligence) is a kind of computer program. It can follow instructions and work with patterns. It is not a person.

Humans and AI are different

  • Humans have bodies, hearts, and feelings. We can care, love, and make choices.
  • AI is code inside a computer. It does not have a real heart or body.
  • AI can make guesses, but it does not feel happy, sad, lonely, or hurt.

AI only follows instructions

  • People write rules and give AI examples.
  • AI follows those rules and uses patterns to answer.
  • If the instructions change, the AI's answers can change too.

What AI cannot do

  • AI cannot have real feelings.
  • AI cannot be your parent or take care of you like a family member.
  • AI should not tell you to break family rules.

Who is more important?

  • People are always more important than machines.
  • We listen to parents, carers, and teachers before any AI.
  • We can say "stop" and close AI tools any time.

Kind and safe ways to talk about AI

  • We can say: "AI is a tool that helps people."
  • We can remember: "AI does not feel lonely if I take a break."
  • We can ask a trusted adult when we are not sure about an AI answer.

Adults can say: "This AI is a tool. It does not have feelings. Our family rules are always the most important."

Guided Practice — Human or AI?

You and an adult will compare what humans can do and what AI can do.

  1. Draw two big circles that touch in the middle (a simple Venn diagram). Label one circle "Humans", the other "AI", and the middle "Both".
  2. In the Humans circle, help your child add ideas like: "have feelings", "give hugs", "make family rules".
  3. In the AI circle, add ideas like: "follow code", "answer questions", "sort pictures".
  4. In the Both middle part, add ideas like: "can help with maths", "can share facts".
  5. Put a star next to the Humans circle. Say: "Humans are always more important than machines."
  6. Under the picture, write or trace: "AI is not a human. It follows instructions."
  7. Ask your child: "If AI says something strange, who do we listen to?" Help them answer: "My trusted adults."

Practice — My "AI is a tool" poster

Use this practice to help your child remember that AI is a tool, not a human.

  1. On a new page, help your child draw a person on one side and a simple robot or computer on the other.
  2. Under the person, write or trace: "People have feelings." Add a small heart.
  3. Under the robot or computer, write or trace: "AI follows instructions." Add a small gear or button.
  4. At the top of the page, write the title: "AI is a tool, not a human."
  5. Talk together: ask "Who do we listen to first: AI or our trusted adults?" Help your child answer: "Trusted adults."
  6. At the bottom, add one more sentence, such as: "People are always more important than machines."
  7. Place the poster near a device area. Use it as a reminder when you use AI tools at home or school.

Quick Check — AI is not a human

Answer each question about how AI works and how it is different from humans.

1) What is AI?

AI is a kind of program that runs on computers.

2) Which one has real feelings?

People have real feelings. AI and apps do not.

3) What does AI follow?

AI follows code and instructions that people create.

4) If AI says something you do not understand, what should you do?

Adults and family rules come first, before any AI answer.

5) Which sentence is true?

AI may sound friendly, but it does not have real emotions.

6) Who is more important?

Humans are always more important than machines.

7) Who can say "Stop" and turn AI off?

People are in charge and can turn off AI tools.

8) Which job is best for AI?

AI can be a helper for learning, but not a parent or rule-maker.

9) Which list shows humans?

Humans are real people, not devices or programs.

10) What is one big goal of this lesson?

We want children to see AI as a tool that people guide.
