Objective

I can write simple sentences about how technology helps people. I can choose kind, safe examples, remember that people are in charge of tech, and share my ideas with a picture and writing page.

Materials

Mini-lesson — How technology helps people

Technology can be a helper in our lives. It can make some jobs easier, help us learn, and help us stay in touch with people we love.

Examples of helpful technology

  • A video call app that lets you see family who live far away.
  • A maps app that helps your family find a new park or library.
  • A reading app that reads stories aloud and helps you practise words.
  • A screen reader or big text setting that helps people who find small text hard to see.
  • A robot helper that does a dangerous job so people can stay safe.

Writing about how tech helps

  • We can start a sentence with: "Tech helps people by…"
  • We can say "It helps ______." (kids, families, doctors, teachers, etc.).
  • We use kind, true ideas that feel right for our family or school.

People are still the boss

  • People choose which tools to use.
  • People decide when to start and stop using technology.
  • We can write: "People are in charge of how we use tech."

Kind and safe tech use

  • Helpful tech use is kind, safe, and balanced.
  • We still need breaks, outside time, and off-screen play.
  • If something feels confusing, scary, or unkind, we tell a trusted adult.

Adults can say: "Today we will choose good examples and write about how technology helps people in kind, safe ways. People are always in charge."

Guided Practice — Say and trace sentences about helpful tech

Use this talk-and-trace activity to help your child get ready to write about how tech helps people.

  1. Ask: "Can you think of one way technology helps someone?" (for example, video calls, maps, reading apps, robot helpers).
  2. Help your child choose one idea, such as: "Tech helps us call Grandma." or "Tech helps doctors."
  3. Say the sentence together slowly. Count the words on your fingers.
  4. On paper, you (the adult) can write the sentence neatly. Your child can read it with you.
  5. Invite your child to copy one key word (like tech, helps, or people) in the tracing pad.
  6. Repeat with one more idea if your child is ready, such as: "Tech helps teachers show pictures."
  7. Remind them: "We are writing about tech that helps people in kind, safe ways. People are still in charge."

Practice — My "tech helps people" writing page

Use this page to help your child make one clear picture-and-writing page about how technology helps people.

  1. On a new page, write the title: "How technology helps people".
  2. Ask your child to draw one picture of technology helping someone (for example, a video call with Grandma, a map that helps the family, a robot doing a hard job).
  3. Under the picture, help them write a first sentence: "Tech helps people by ______." (for example: "calling family" or "showing doctors important pictures").
  4. If they are ready, add a second sentence: "It helps ______." (kids, families, teachers, nurses, etc.).
  5. Add one more line together: "People are in charge of how we use tech."
  6. Read the page out loud. Ask: "Is this a kind, safe way for tech to help?" Change any ideas that do not feel kind or safe.
  7. Put the page in your learning folder as proof that your child can write about how technology helps people.
