Today you will practice addition. Addition means you put together. You can add by counting on.

How to count on

  • Start with the bigger number.
  • Count up the other number.
  • The last number you say is the sum.

  • Start on the first number.

Grab small objects like blocks, coins, or cereal. Make one group of 6 and another group of 3. Push the groups together and count all to find the total. Say: “Six plus three equals nine.” Now try it again with different small numbers. When you’re ready, use the tracing pad to write a few equations.
