← Back to Level 1

Objective

I can remember and talk about important SEL ideas I learned, like feelings, calm tools, kindness, problem-solving, and trying again.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Remembering our SEL tools

This lesson is a review. You look back at many SEL lessons and remember what helped you.

Feelings words

  • We can name feelings like happy, sad, angry, scared, proud, or calm.
  • We can say, "I feel…" to a trusted adult.

Calm-down tools

  • We learned tools like belly breathing, counting slowly, or using a calm corner.
  • We can use them when our feelings are big and we need a pause.

Friendship & kindness

  • We can use kind words and listening ears.
  • We can take turns, share, and say "Can I play?"
  • We can say "stop" if someone is unkind and ask an adult for help.

Problem-solving steps

  • We can stop and breathe first.
  • We can say what the problem is in simple words.
  • We can think of small choices and ask an adult which is safe and fair.

Growth mindset

  • We can say, "I can try" or "I cannot do it yet".
  • We remember that mistakes help us learn.
  • We can feel proud when we keep trying kindly.

Looking back and forward

  • We can notice SEL tools that helped us this year.
  • We can choose one tool we want to keep using.
  • We can thank ourselves for practising.

Adults can say: "You have learned many SEL tools. You do not need to use all of them at once. We will keep practising a few that help you most."

Guided Practice — My SEL review page

You and an adult will make a simple SEL review page to remember your tools.

  1. On a page, write or trace the title "My SEL tools" at the top.
  2. Draw a big circle in the middle. Inside the circle, draw yourself. Add a small heart on your shirt or near you.
  3. Around the circle, draw five small boxes or shapes. Label them: Feelings, Calm, Friends, Fix (problems), and Try (again).
  4. In each box, help your child draw or write one tool they remember (for example, feelings words, belly breathing, kind words, asking for help, "I cannot do it yet").
  5. Practise reading the page together using simple sentences like: "For feelings I can say how I feel.", "For calm I can breathe slowly."
  6. At the bottom, add the sentence "I can keep using my SEL tools".
  7. Decide where to keep the page (for example, near a calm corner) so you can look at it again when you need a reminder.

Practice — My SEL wins

Use this practice to help your child notice small SEL wins from this year.

  1. On a new page, draw three boxes and label them "At home", "At school" (or learning time), and "With friends".
  2. In each box, help your child draw or write one time they used an SEL tool (for example, using calm breathing, saying "stop" kindly, asking for help, or trying again).
  3. Next to each picture, add a small star or heart as a "SEL win" sign.
  4. Read the page together and say: "These are some ways you used your SEL tools."
  5. Ask your child: "Which SEL tool helped you the most?" and circle that picture.
  6. At the bottom, write or trace "I will keep using my SEL tools next year".
  7. Keep this page with the review page so you can remember SEL wins later.

Quick Check — SEL review

Answer each question about feelings, calm tools, kindness, and trying again.

1) Why is it helpful to know feelings words?

Feelings words help us share what is happening inside.

2) Which is a good calm-down tool?

Slow breathing can help your body feel calmer.

3) Your friend says, "Can I play?" What is a kind answer?

Kind friends try to include others when it is safe and fair.

4) Someone is being unkind and will not stop. What can you do?

We can set a boundary and ask an adult for help.

5) What is the first step in problem-solving?

We calm our bodies first so we can think clearly.

6) Which sentence shows a growth mindset?

Growth mindset means we believe we can learn with effort.

7) You feel very upset and do not know what to do. What could help?

Talking to trusted adults is a safe SEL tool.

8) Your friend wins a game. What is a kind choice?

We can celebrate other people's success kindly.

9) You tried a calm tool and it did not work the first time. What is a good next step?

Calm tools often need practice and adult support.

10) What is one big goal of this SEL review?

The goal is to remember helpful tools and feel encouraged.
