Read your sentence aloud. If it sounds choppy, try joining ideas with a conjunction.

- and = adds: “I like apples and pears.”
- but = contrast: “I’m small, but fast.”
- or = choice: “Tea or milk?”
- so = result: “It rained, so we stayed in.”
- because = reason: “I smiled because I won.”
Guided Practice — Trace and Join Ideas
Trace a conjunction and write a complete sentence that joins two ideas:
- and — adds: “We played and laughed.”
- but — contrast: “I tried, but it was hard.”
- or — choose: “Blue or green?”
- so — result: “It was late, so we slept.”
- because — reason: “I rested because I ran.”
Keep one clear idea + conjunction + second idea. End with a period.
