✍️ WRITING (40 Lessons)🟢 A. Building Sentences and Paragraphs

← Back to Level 2

Objective

I can join ideas in a sentence using conjunctions like and, but, or, so, because to show different relationships.

Materials

Read your sentence aloud. If it sounds choppy, try joining ideas with a conjunction.

Mini-lesson — Common Conjunctions

  1. and = adds: “I like apples and pears.”
  2. but = contrast: “I’m small, but fast.”
  3. or = choice: “Tea or milk?”
  4. so = result: “It rained, so we stayed in.”
  5. because = reason: “I smiled because I won.”

Guided Practice — Trace and Join Ideas

Trace a conjunction and write a complete sentence that joins two ideas:

  • and — adds: “We played and laughed.”
  • but — contrast: “I tried, but it was hard.”
  • or — choose: “Blue or green?”
  • so — result: “It was late, so we slept.”
  • because — reason: “I rested because I ran.”

Keep one clear idea + conjunction + second idea. End with a period.
