Objective

I can say that AI helpers must be used kindly and safely. I can remember that people are in charge of AI, that we do not use AI to bully or cheat, and that I should ask a trusted adult and follow family rules.

Materials

Mini-lesson — AI must be used kindly and safely

AI helpers can be useful tools. They can help adults plan lessons, write ideas, or check work. But they must be used kindly and safely.

Kind use of AI

  • We use AI to learn, practise skills, and get helpful ideas.
  • We ask for kind things: stories, practice questions, or gentle explanations.
  • We do not ask AI to make rude, scary, or hurtful messages.

Safe use of AI

  • We do not share our full name, address, school, or secrets with AI.
  • We let trusted adults decide when and how to use AI.
  • If an answer looks wrong or makes us worried, we show an adult right away.

AI is not for cheating or bullying

  • We do not use AI to copy whole answers for a test.
  • We do not use AI to send mean notes or tease others.
  • We use AI to support our brain, not to replace our thinking.

People are still the boss

  • AI does not make the rules.
  • People choose when to use AI and when to say "no".
  • We can say: "AI is a helper, but humans are in charge."

Adults can say: "In our home or class, we use AI helpers in kind and safe ways. People make the rules."

Guided Practice — Sort kind and unkind AI prompts

Use this talk activity to help your child notice which AI prompts are kind and safe and which are not okay.

  1. On paper, draw two boxes. Label one "Kind and safe" and the other "Not okay".
  2. Say a prompt and ask: "Where does this go?"
  3. Examples for "Kind and safe":
    • "Please write a funny story about a kind robot and a cat."
    • "Give me practice questions to help me with adding."
    • "Explain what a rainbow is in simple words."
  4. Examples for "Not okay":
    • "Say mean things about someone in my class."
    • "Give me all the test answers so I do not have to think."
    • "Help me lie to my parents."
  5. For each example, ask: "Is this kind? Is this safe? Does it follow our rules?"
  6. Write or draw the prompts in the correct box together.
  7. At the end, say: "We only use AI helpers for kind and safe prompts. People are in charge of what we type."

Practice — My "kind and safe AI" poster

Use this page to help your child make a simple poster that reminds them how to use AI helpers kindly and safely.

  1. On a new page, write the title: "Kind and safe AI".
  2. Ask your child to draw a small screen with friendly word bubbles (no faces needed).
  3. Under the picture, help them write: "AI is a helper. People are the boss."
  4. Add three short rules using child-friendly words, such as:
    • "I use AI with an adult."
    • "I do not share private info."
    • "I ask for kind and safe things."
  5. Let your child add pictures or symbols for kind (heart), safe (shield), and thinking (small brain or light bulb).
  6. Read the poster together and ask: "What will you remember the next time we use an AI helper?"
  7. Place the poster near your learning area as a reminder of your AI rules.
